To fulfill the MATC, you must:
- Successfully complete 36 hours of coursework.
- Submit a Portfolio of your work
Most students elect to complete an MATC portfolio. However, the MATC program does include an option for students to complete a master’s thesis. Consult with the DGS-TCR if you are considering pursuing the thesis option.
Technical Communication Graduate Course Options
Thesis Option
The thesis option requires a faculty committee of at least two members and for you to complete 24 hours of graduate courses in Technical Communication and electives, or a minor which includes 6 hours of research.
Portfolio Option
The Portfolio option requires you to complete 33 hours of graduate courses in Technical Communication and electives, or a minor which includes ENGL 5326 MATC Portfolio Capstone for a total of 36 hours. Successful completion of ENGL 5326 will meet the “Comprehensive Exam” MATC requirement. The goal of the capstone course is to help you design a digital, web-based portfolio to show what you have completed in the Master’s program at TTU. To prepare you to enter into the industry, the portfolio is written for an authentic audience and should showcase your skills.
Minor
Two or three courses (6-9 hours) may constitute a minor in a field other than Technical Communication. The minor should enhance your ability to understand and apply research related to communication or to complete job responsibilities. The minor courses may be taken in one department, or may consist of a cluster of courses on related topics from different departments.
